CONFERENCES
IRO attends several Model United Nations conferences each school year in the US and Canada, where members participate in committees with students from around the globe. Generally, IRO participates in two conferences during the Fall semester (BarMUN and UPMUNC) and two conferences during the spring semester (McMUN and ChoMUN).
Each conference costs approximately $150 per delegate, made in two payments of $75 each, with minor variations in cost between conferences. Conferences fees include hotel accommodations, admission to the conference, conference materials and transportation. Prior to the conference, IRO members will have the opportunity to participate in committee simulations, research workshops, as well as speaking and writing practices in order to prepare for the conference.
You can learn more about these conferences below.
BarMUN
The Boston Area Model United Nations Conference (BarMUN) is a crisis-based conference held at Boston University. Especially innovative because of its integrated crisis committees, BarMUN is not recommended for beginner delegates, who might get bogged down in the complexity of inter-committee interactions. Visit the BarMUN webpage to learn more about the conference.

UPMUNC
The University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference (UPMUNC), held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, offers General Assembly, crisis, and specialized committees. Traditionally IRO’s beginner conference, UPMUNC’s committees vary enough in their complexity that this conference can introduce beginner delegates to the process while simultaneously keeping veterans engaged. Visit the UPMUNC webpage to learn more about the conference.
——-
McMUN
The McGill Model United Nations Conference (McMUN) was IRO’s first Canadian conference. Commonly known for its nightlife, Montreal offers a variety of activities for delegates of all ages. McMUN’s committees are unique and exciting each year, and requests for this conference are often very high. McMUN hosts a wide variety of committees–including GA, crisis and specialized committees–for both beginners and experienced delegates. Visit the McMUN webpage to learn more about the conference.
——-
ChoMUN
ChoMUN, sponsored by the University of Chicago, is generally attended by more experienced delegates because of its focus on smaller, specialized committees. The conference’s selection of committees is unique–they range from historical simulations such as the Cantonese Pirate Coalition, to modern-day simulations like the White House Senior Staff. Visit the ChoMUN webpage to learn more about the conference.
